For my main topic I wanted to focus on the patterns of studying and school work and how it fits into college students schedule (also the environment they like to study in, how much time they spend on certain subject, when do they choose to study, etc.)
How do you usually study? Describe what you do during a normal work session? When I study I read over my notes and if I know someone in my class we study together. I really don’t use my text book when I study.
How much time do you spend on studying for a test? It depends on the subject that I am studying for. I study on average for about 2 hours for each subject.
Do you spend more time on one subject more than another? I spend more time working on science and history classes. I feel like I am always studying for them, because there is a lot of information to remember.
How much time do you spend each day on homework? After I get out of class I spend about 3-4 hours on homework and then study after dinner.
When do you normally do homework? Studying? I am in class all day, so I don’t start homework around 7 depending on the day, and I work on homework all night long.
Where do you do homework? Study? This year I have spent a lot of time in the library, but if I don’t have time I study in my room or the lounges in my building.
Do you think Bloomsburg offers the tools you need (as far as help from teachers, places to study, tutoring, knowledge, etc.)? I think Bloomsburg does offer tools to help. The teachers have office hours that you can go to for extra help. The school also offers free tutors that students can get to help in their classes.
Do you study and do homework in groups or by yourself? If I know people in the class we study together. I prefer to study in a group, because it puts many brains together and we can remember more information.
Does schoolwork come before social activities for you? If no, what activities come before schoolwork? Schoolwork does come before social activities. I am here to come to school and that is my main priority.
1. How do you usually study? Describe what you do during a normal work session? I review all my notes for the chapters on that test, use my study guides if teacher gives any out, then I read the chapter if needed. I usually study with the tv off and quite music on.
2. How much time do you spend on studying for a test? I study between one to two hours the day before a test and half hour each om different subjects.
3. Do you spend more time on one subject more than another? I spend more time on my harder class then I do easier classes. Harder classes take more time to understand and retain the information.
4. How much time do you spend each day on homework? I usually spend as much time as i can on my homework (between one hour and hour an a half)
5. When do you normally do homework? Studying? I do homework after my practice which ends at different times each day and then I do work when I'm done eating, so between 6 and 11 at night.
6. Where do you do homework? Study? I do most of my work in my apartment but also at the library when there is too much going on in the apartment or I just need a change of scenery.
7. Do you think Bloomsburg offers the tools you need (as far as help from teachers, places to study, tutoring, knowledge, etc.)? Yes 3 out 5 of my class have a free tutoring service and all my teachers have TA's or office hours.
8. Do you study and do homework in groups or by yourself? I like to study alone but if I have questions ill ask people in my class. I tend to focus better when I'm alone.
9. Does schoolwork come before social activities for you? If no, what activities come before schoolwork? My school work comes before my activities in all aspects of social activities.
The people that I interviewed seemed to now that I look at it have some similarities and differences. This is something big that I've learned throughout this project, that not everyones going to be the same and not everyone's going to be different, but people will have some things the same and some things different. Also another point that I learned is that you can't judge a book by it's cover. You never know someone until you get to know them. I realized that most students use the tools provided by the professors as far as the notes given, the book chapters, TA's, office hours, or even just e-mailing the professor. In these two students they both seemed to put school first and foremost before any kinda of social activities, which really shows that they are here to go to school and focus on that main goal but this is only a sample of all the students out there, when for others school could be the side note and social activities may be the main focus. I think that this may be something in common with everyone, that for our personal struggles in certain classes determines whether we study more for that class or not. A difference between these two was that one liked to study in groups more so than the other, so this shows the diversity among the choices in studying. Another similarity that I noticed was that these two students took almost every free time that they had to study or work on homework during the week hours. Studying and doing homework takes on so many options such as whether to study at all, where to study, when to study, how to study, and even within that there are sub groups so just imagine all the types of students that alone attend Bloomsburg University.
